One of the many unique characteristics of M3 is that it can be applied seamlessly over any substrate in a thin layer measured in microns, to as thick as necessary. It can also be cast in solid or hollow form. M3 coatings can give almost any material the appearance and surface characteristics of a sold metal object without the weight, conductive or corrosive properties.
Utilizing a cold-spray application M3 will adhere permanently to foam, plastic, gypsum, wood, stone, metal, fiberglass, plaster, ceramics, concrete, terracotta, as well as unusual surfaces like cardboard or paper products and other materials. Because it is real metal composite, when properly applied, it is durable, will not crack, chip or peel and is suitable for exterior as well as interior use. Once cured, the product is inert, looks and acts like real metal, with all the characteristics of a solid metal piece including texture, luster and reflection.

Because M3 coatings are manufactured with such high concentrations of pure atomized metals their surface finish will react the same as the pure metals. This means that they can be finished with a variety of patinas, brushed or polished finishes or simply allowed to color naturally; but they can’t corrode, rust through or disintegrate.
There is a specific chemical reaction that occurs during the creation of the M3 composite which causes the metal particles to be fully encapsulated with the hybrid binder. One of the benefits of this encapsulation is that the composite does not conduct electricity; a second benefit is that the composite does not corrode beyond the first metal particle layer. For example: M3 Iron composite can take on a beautiful rust patina that will last forever without ever rusting through. This is because only the metal particles at the surface of the composite can rust; the next particle layer is fully protected by the hybrid binder.
The interior and exterior use of these extraordinary M3 metal coatings is almost limitless. There is no heat or evaporation involved in the curing process so there is no distortion or shrinkage of the composite metal or the substrate. M3 coatings can be applied to any stable substrate and have passed vigorous adhesion and freeze/thaw testing.
Experienced craftsman can apply M3 coatings either by brush, roller or spray with commercially available equipment. However, we do recommend hiring a licensed installer or job shop to handle complicated applications. The finishing experts at PermanOre Architectural Finishes have been working with M3 coatings since day one and are the only US based company currently licensed to apply them.
